Aloo Mattar – Potato Peas Curry2014-11-02
Aloo Mattar – Potato Peas Curry – a delicious spicy dish potatoes and green peas merged in tomato onion curry. We use to cook this very often. This delicious dish can be eaten with Roti, Parathas, or rice.
- Potato - 4
- Peas - 1 ½ cup ( fresh/frozen)
- Onion - 1 ½ cup (chopped)
- Green chillie - 2
- Ginger - 1 tsp. (grated)
- Tomato - 3 (finely chopped)
- Salt as needed
- Oil -1 tbsp.
- Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1 tsp.
- Coriander powder - 1 1/2 tsp.
- Chillies powder -1/2 tsp. ( add more if you want more heat)
- Garam masala- 1/2 tsp.
Potato Preparation: First cut the potatoes in four even pieces, boil it in the pressure cooker till the first whistle comes. Then take out make it cool by adding cold water , and remove the skin.
Peas Preparation: If you are using dried green peas, you need to soak for 5 hours and then cook it in a pressure cooker till 3 whistles.
Tempering: Heat oil in a pan, add the chopped onion fry till it turns golden brown. Now add tomatoes and fry till it mashes. When onion and tomatoes are fried completely, add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and fry well
Mixing of Potatos and Peas: Then add the cooked and peeled potatoes to the creamy mixture of spices stir well together Sprinkle or add water and mix carefully. Now add cooked green peas/frozen peas to the curry. Now mix it slowly, because the cooked potatos tender to smash easily
Garnishing: Garnish the Aloo matar curry with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with Roti, poori, chapathi or Paratha
Tips:Instead of cooking potatoes in a pressure cooker, you can just fry potatoes with 2 tbsp. Oil. So that it retains its shape.
